Celebrating the Transition from CAEAL to CALA
October 3, 2008

INTRODUCTION
CAEAL has changed its name to the Canadian Association for Laboratory Accreditation Inc. (CALA), in response to member desires for us to deliver more than accreditation, proficiency testing and training to environmental laboratories only. We are now known as CALA (pronounced KAY-LAH), but we are the same group of volunteers and staff that established and sustained CAEAL’s reputation for excellence.

NATIONAL CELEBRATION
74 Canadian laboratories will be presented with the documents that formally recognise their demonstrated competence between 6 and 10 October 2008.

Based on rigorous requirements contained in the international standard, ISO/IEC 17025 – General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories, these laboratories have successfully demonstrated their continuing competence and have agreed to receive their new certificates as the Canadian Association for Laboratory Accreditation (CALA) celebrates a new name and a new mandate.

In 10 separate ceremonies to be held in Burnaby, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Hamilton, Ottawa, Fredericton, Halifax and St. John’s, volunteer CALA members from public sector and private sector institutions across Canada will present replacement certificates to the laboratories named in local announcements.
