Health Canada, on behalf of the Committee on the Health and Environment
(CHE), has posted the Canadian Guidelines for Household Reclaimed Water for Use in Toilet and Urinal Flushing on its website for a 2-month consultation
period. This is a new technical document which proposes guidelines for household reclaimed water quality, as well as guidance on potential elements of a management framework. The consultation document is now available from our new page for Reclaimed Water at the following address:

  1. Environment Canada has been working with provincial and territorial governments to develop a Canada-wide Strategy for wastewater effluents under the auspices of the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME).

    The document below outlines Environment Canada’s proposed regulatory framework for wastewater as it relates to implementing the CCME Strategy. The proposed regulatory framework reflects core elements of the CCME Strategy and includes wastewater effluent regulations and other risk management actions.

  2. Canadian Council of Ministers of Environment has completed the draft Strategy and is seeking a final review of the Strategy with stakeholders. Members should note that the document proposes that all tests must be conducted by accredited laboratories.

    CAEAL will provide comments to CCME based on consultation materials that are found at the CCME website.

Canadian Council of Ministers of Environment are conducting consultations on a Canada-wide strategy for managing municipal wastewater effluent. Members should note that the document proposes that all tests must be conducted by accredited laboratories.
